Better Photo Picker is provided by Will Y. This policy describes the current Android app, version 0.2.1, package com.betterphotopicker.app. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to [email protected]. Our website is https://www.qiany.me.

Photos and local processing

The current app does not upload your photos, videos, or face-analysis results to us or a cloud AI provider. You choose which storage folder the app can read through Android's folder picker. The app uses those files to display media, compare burst photos, remember your selections, and import selected items into your device gallery. It does not request unrestricted access to all files.

The app stores a local index containing file references and metadata, selections, review position, burst groups, and import progress and verification hashes. This information supports browsing, resuming a review, recovering imports, and avoiding repeat imports previously recorded by the app. Original files are not deleted or changed by importing. Imported copies preserve their original metadata, which may include location information embedded by your camera.

Optional local AI and SDK diagnostics

Pro AI assistance is optional and off by default. When enabled, the app initializes Google's ML Kit when analysis of the first valid photo begins. Face detection runs on your device. Face positions, eye and smile estimates, and head angles help you compare photos; the app does not use them to identify people or build an identity database. Analysis results are cached in memory.

Local photo processing does not mean that all SDK data stays on the device. ML Kit can send technical diagnostics and usage metrics to Google, including device and app information, an installation identifier, performance and error information, and events describing SDK use. Google uses these metrics for diagnostics, usage analytics, maintaining and improving the APIs, and detecting misuse or abuse. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure (https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/android-data-disclosure), ML Kit terms (https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/terms), and Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). Google states that the listed ML Kit data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS.

Disabling AI stops new analyses requested by the app. An analysis already in progress may finish, and disabling AI does not erase metrics already queued by the SDK or Google Play services. The app does not provide a separate control that guarantees deletion or suppression of all SDK telemetry.

Purchases and support

Google Play processes Pro purchases and payment information under Google's policies. The app receives and locally stores purchase status, product identifiers, a purchase token, and signed receipt information to verify and restore Pro access. We do not receive your full payment card details through the app.

If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send. We use that information to respond and resolve your request. Please do not send photos or other sensitive material unless needed for your request. Support correspondence is retained as needed to handle the matter and meet applicable obligations; you may contact us to request deletion, subject to those obligations.

Backups and other services

Android backup and device transfer may include the app's local settings, index, import records, and purchase cache, according to your device settings and platform behavior. A storage provider you select, or a gallery or backup service you use, may independently synchronize source files or imported copies. Their handling of data is governed by their policies and your settings. These services are separate from the app's local photo analysis.

Retention and your choices

Local review and import records remain in the app's private storage until cleared through Android app settings or removed by uninstalling, subject to platform backup and restoration. Clearing app data also removes review progress and cached entitlement; eligible purchases can be restored through Google Play. Imported gallery copies remain until you delete them separately. Memory caches are temporary and may be cleared as the app or process releases them.

We do not control Google's retention of SDK metrics or Google Play purchase records, or retention by your selected backup and storage providers. Use their privacy controls or contact them for those records. For data we receive directly, such as support email, contact us at the address above. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of personal data.

Security

The app uses Android's access controls and private app storage. We limit access to selected source folders and use local processing for media review. No storage or transmission method can guarantee absolute security. Your device security and backup settings also affect protection of your information.
